Description courte :
SICT organizes the second edition of their doctoral summer school on sustainable information and communication technologies : SICT2021. This event will take place from the 30th of August to the 3rd of September, on the UCLouvain campus in Louvain-la-Neuve.
This second edition will address this transversal topic with the insight from multiple disciplines (electrical and software engineering, economy, philosophy,...). Therefore, even though this event is initially targeted towards rese
Description complète :
Are you concerned by the evolution of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), their impact and the ways to design sustainable ICT? Do you sometimes wonder how your specific research is answering to the needs of our society? How to zoom-out in our complex system and ask yourself the question: how is my research dependent on external factors that are usually taken for granted? What is behind all these hypotheses allowing innovation and development of advanced technologies? How could you better account for them in your research and make things slightly differently? If these questions ring a bell for you, then join us for the second edition of the Summer School on Sustainable ICT organized by UCLouvain (Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium) from August 30th to September 3rd, 2021. The SICT2021 Summer school will provide a trans-disciplinary overview and insights into the innovations at each step of ICT life-cyle. While the first edition focused on the impact of production steps such as raw materials extraction, SICT2021 aims to build on these insights to delve into another key aspect in the system life-cycle: the use phase. This year, the discussion shifts towards software-related aspects, which will stand as the central theme of the week. From data centers’ power consumption to the development of lightweight websites, from mitigating user footprint through Human-Computer Interaction to exploring limits-aware computing for post growth contexts, you will find inspiration from key players in the field. Join us to build a new research community, consolidating professional networks through insightful discussions, interactive workshops and many more collaborative activities. This year we will also bridge academia with industry, and we will hear about their efforts in reducing their environmental footprint. Total fee for the whole week is 250 € for early birds (inscriptions before June). After June, the total fee comes at 275 €. This includes attendance to all activities (i.e. workshops, plenary talks, experts panels, etc.), lunches from Monday to Friday and coffee breaks. If you are interested in participating to the Thursday evening social event (cocktail and dinner with local food), an additional fee of 40 € is requested. Come back home with a plethora of tools to stimulate your research and take up the challenge of rethinking from new perspectives!
