Multi-physics coupling in geomaterials

Abstract : The research activities of the Laboratory of GeoMechanics take place in the general context of environmental geomechanics and focus on the multi-physical behaviour of geomaterials (soils, rocks) through a three-part approach (experimental, constitutive and numerical modelling). Those fundamental developments are applied to geotechnical and geomechanical issues. Possible research topics are (i) soil-atmosphere interactions: unsaturated behaviour of soils, drying kinetics, shrinkage behaviour, desiccation cracks; (ii) radioactive waste repository in clayey geological layers: fundamental comprehension of chemo-thermo-hydro-mechanical processes involved in waste disposal; (iii) geomechanical issues regarding CO2 geological sequestration
