Development and molecular biology of trees and tree-microorganisms interactions


Abstract : The general objective of our research consists to gain a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms at the basis of the formation and the development of secondary vascular tissues in woody plants. Populus has been developed as a model system for woody perennial plant biology thanks to the availability of various genetic, genomic, and biochemical tools for this genus. Our works have led to the identification of several molecular determinants associated to the transition from primary towards secondary growth. The projects of the team concern essentially functional approaches such as the alteration of gene expression in transgenic poplars, the study of the spatio-temporal expression at the transcript and at the protein level. A particular focus is also made on the interaction of the transgenic trees with microorganisms.
