Study of proton gluon saturation at the LHC with heavy ion data

Abstract : At high energy, the gluon density in the proton is so high that gluon recombination phenomena are expected. The idea of this analysis is to measure the exclusive J/Psi and Upsilon cross section from p-Pb runs taken at the LHC with the CMS detector. Such exclusive processes are expected to give a clear signature of gluon saturation. The Pb beam offers a unique high energy photon source interacting with the proton: gamma + p -> J/Psi + p. The PhD student will be integrated in the ULB experimental group on CMS. Participation to the running of the experiment at CERN is expected. This PhD can be made in co-supervision with the Chinese University.
