Study of the impact of ice and water clouds on the climate using high resolution infrared satellite measurements.


Abstract : Clouds are important contributors to the energy budget of the Earth. This thesis aims at studying their associated radiative forcing using global satellite measurements of the high resolution infrared sounder IASI. In the first part, the in-house forward scattering model will be reviewed and where needed expanded to incorporate scattering of non-spherical ice particles. In the second part, algorithms will be developed to retrieve from IASI observed spectra, cloud properties relevant to climate studies.
