Description of the electrode-RTIL interface


Abstract : The scientific objective of the research is to correlate the properties and structure of metal electrode-room temperature ionic liquid (RTIL) interfaces to its reactivity. For this aim, the most important milestone is the description of the electrical double layer in RTILs. The main goal of the present project is therefore to generate fundamental knowledge on the electrical double layer (EDL) formed at the electrode-room temperature ionic liquid interface. The classical picture based on the Stern model is no longer valid and therefore reliable experimental data are needed to help the validation of new models of the electrochemical double layer and to stimulate new theoretical descriptions.
