Search for a new massive scalar in the channel H->ZZ->l+l- + missing transverse energy

Abstract : A search for a new, massive scalar (mH>250 GeV) will be performed on the CMS data collected in LHC Run 2 (2015-2018), in the H->ZZ->l+l-nunu final state. This search is well motivated by extensions of the standard model addressing e.g. the naturalness question. Thanks to the high energy and the favourable branching fraction of this final state, the sensitivity for a massive scalar will largely increase compared to Run 1. The same channel also allows an indirect constraint on the Higgs boson width to be set. The PhD student will be integrated in the ULB experimental group on CMS. Participation to the running of the experiment at CERN is expected. A contribution to the preparation of the upgrades of CMS (GEM detectors, silicon strip detectors), in which the ULB is involved, is also possible.
